Body Psychotherapy

What is Body Psychotherapy?
Body psychotherapy, also called body-oriented psychotherapy, is an approach to psychotherapy that applies basic somatic psychology principles.

What does the work of a body psychotherapist look like – What happens in a session?
In many instances, Body Psychotherapy may initially work like any other psychotherapeutic approach: you talk about your concerns and problems, and the work develops from there.
Body Psychotherapists have always used an eclectic range of humanistic techniques, many of which derived from other therapeutic approaches. However, attending the body through “body awareness” can open up a whole neglected world of information, both for the client and therapist.
How does Body Psychotherapy differ from other methods of Psychotherapy

Body psychotherapy differs from most other psychotherapy because it focuses on the body, life energy, and its use of special techniques for working with the body. Body Psychotherapy works with body, mind and spirit as an integrated whole, helping the client feel and know his/her body as ‘home’. The therapist aims to re-awaken a natural capacity for health, well-being and pleasure.

How much does a session cost?
The price is €60 for a 60 minute session
Is there a difference between counselling & psychotherapy?
This causes a lot of confusion for clients mainly because counselling and psychotherapy can often describe a similar experience. Broadly speaking, counselling is often used to describe where a client is working on a particular issue that is currently happening in their life and may be for a shorter period of time. On the other hand, psychotherapy is often used to describe where clients work on issues that often relate to events that may originate in their past and affect the person in their life now to require deeper exploration. In reality, it is often hard to distinguish between the two approaches and I am trained to work with what the clients need and want.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
In the event of the need to cancel a session, a 24 hours notice is required. If you cannot cancel with less than the agreed period of notice, you will be asked to pay a cancellation fee for the missed session, which will be agreed upon at your first session
How many sessions will I need?
There is no single answer to this, as it will depend on what issues you are experiencing. However, during your first session, you can discuss this with your counsellor or psychotherapist, and you can either leave it open-ended or decide to fix it in several sessions. Often it is agreed to work together for about six sessions and then review whether to continue further.
How often will I attend?
Sessions are held weekly. This allows the relationship between the therapist and client to develop better as the therapy is regular and consistent. The client can also get a faster and deeper understanding of their experiences
Is therapy completely confidential?
Counselling and psychotherapy is a confidential service in almost all situations. However, it is important to point out that ethical and legal obligations must be considered in certain circumstances, such as the Child Protection Act (protecting the rights and welfare of children and minors). Therefore, the therapist will fully explain confidentiality to you in the first session
